Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero - Early Access Demo Version

Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero is a current in-progress game from Wayforward. Right now, they just released a Early Access Demo (Which I played). This Early Access Demo (aka EAD), only has 3 Levels which I will use to review fairly. This game will be out for PC, Vita, Playstation, Nintendo, and a few others. The EAD is only for PC so far. Release Date Unknown at this time. I'm getting the full game on the Vita.

FUN: So far after playing the 3 Levels, I instantly fell in love with it. The controls are fluent and easy to use. I felt like when I messed up, it was my fault, not the games. The music, colors, and transformations are a blast. I'm looking forward to play more. WayForward left us a quote, "As the player it's your job to find the source of this new evil power and banish it once and for all. The story is doled out in CHAPTERS, with each chapter introducing new subplots, friends & foes, a new Transformation to discover, puzzles to solve, hazards to overcome, and a Boss to conquer. Revisiting past chapters with newly acquired abilities will unlock the next set of paths, powers & plot-lines" FUN - 2.

REPLAY: I don't know how the whole game will play off, but I have a good feeling the replay value will be great for this game. I can only play 3 levels with the EAD and I love them enough to keep playing them. The Part of a WayForward Quote, "Revisiting past chapters with newly acquired abilities will unlock the next set of paths, powers & plot-lines" shows a bit of replay within the game itself, which I like. REPLAY - 1.5.

STORY: From what I saw, Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero continues from where Shantae and the Pirate's Curse ends off at. From certain scenes, I noticed that we might actually see Shantae's Mother finally, which I really hope for. Besides those 2 things, the story is not known much. I will leave this subject to the quote WayForward left us, "In our story, Shantae is roused from a deep sleep, suddenly alert. She plunges into the moonlit forest in search of answers. In nearby Scuttle Town she discovers a mysterious trapdoor, and beyond that, a luminous subterranean cavern. A familiar voice calls out, drawing Shantae to a beautiful fountain. Touching its waters she is immediately spirited away to the fable Genie Realm. At her feet a magical seal swells as some powerful evil seeks escape. The chamber with a deep, bellowing roar and everything goes white. Shantae sits upright, back in her bed. Was it just a dream? Or a vision of things to come?" STORY - 1.5.

DIFFERENCE/ORIGINAL: Well... Not much is new for Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero. Plays a lot like Shantae: Risky's Revenge. There are some new things such as the Crab Transformation. However, Thanks to Backers (Including Myself), WayForward was funded enough to make more chapters, characters, costumes, and even more new transformations. Of course, the major difference is that this Shantae game was the only one on Kickstarter. DIFFERENCE/ORIGINAL - 1.5.

DIFFICULTY: Just like the other Shantae games, they are very well balanced in the ways of difficulty. Not too hard, not too easy. Most of the time, if you mess up, it's your fault, not the games. DIFFICULTY - 2.

TOTAL - 8.5.
